About me
Assalamu Alaikum!
I am very excited to be doing Guidance and other things in the high school this year! Let me tell you a little bit about myself!
I am family-oriented, come from a large extended family and I live with my family in Toronto’s East end. I am an outdoor person, someone who enjoys nature walks, hiking, camping, canoeing and cross-country skiing, just to name a few of the many activities that I love! I also appreciate going to museums and learning about and visiting historical places. I am very much into travelling, writing and painting! I enjoy baking and cooking a great deal, and especially enjoy coming up with recipes of my own. I absolutely love working with children and youth, and like to take them on trips and excursions!
Currently, I am a high school teacher, but I am qualified to teach from Kindergarten to grade 12, Alhamdulillah. My subjects include the Humanities and English. I was a part of the ITEP pilot program, or the Islamic Teacher Education Program offered by OISE at the University of Toronto. I am also the guidance counsellor for our school and completed my Guidance Specialist a few years ago. After teacher’s college, I began teaching at the school 17 years ago, but began volunteering with the school when it first opened.
I enjoy volunteer work and fundraising, and am currently on a committee that runs Hot Soup Days, a ‘free restaurant’ that is designed to serve those who are less fortunate. I enjoy doing volunteer work, with kids, and, in particular, with those who are less fortunate than all of us. I enjoy attending lectures and halaqas and think that it is important to be involved in community work with both Muslims and non-Muslims, be it through Interfaith work or otherwise. I love living in Canada, was raised here and really appreciate everything that Canada has to offer its people!
Thank you for taking the time in getting to know me!
